Koinonia John the Baptist is a private association of believers at the service of New Evangelization. It is part of the Catholic Church and is canonically approved by many bishops in accordance with can.299 of the Code of Canon Law and according to can. 573 of the Code of Canon Law of the Greek Catholic Church. It desires to offer a response to the needs of the church today, proposing a New Evangelization which is new in its ardour, new in its methods and new in its expression and according to the directions of current church teaching. It is made up of many communities scattered throughout the various continents but united under one structure called The Federation of Koinonia John the Baptist. Each Koinonia is constructed as a centre of life and of evangelization where its members gather together periodically to grow in a life of faith and in evangelization training. Its charism is the promotion of New Evangelization through evangelization activities, various types of training and the establishment of communities of life and alliance.Inherent in the name Koinonia John the Baptist are the characteristics of the community: its nature and its purpose. It is a people of friends called to evangelize in the power of the Holy Spirit, following the example of John the Baptist, the one who witnessed and pointed to Jesus. What characterises the Koinonia is its primary announcement of the Gospel, its openness to charismatic signs and its intense communitarian life. Born after a powerful experience of the Holy Spirit, the Koinonia sprang up through the initiative of Fr. Ricardo Argañaraz, at Camparmò, a secluded location in Vincentino, Italy. The starting date of the community was officially fixed as January 1st 1979, on the Feast of Mary Mother of God and the occasion of a pilgrimage to the Holy House of Loreto. Today there are currently more than 4000 members comprising of families, consecrated brothers and sisters and some priests.
